American Heart Awareness Month

February is a month where many things are celebrated, including America's Heart Awareness. This is the time for us to focus on our cardiovascular health. Let's dig into why we have this month anyways.

During American Heart Month, we raise awareness of the risks of heart disease, remember those we have lost, and highlight steps we can all take to save the lives of countless loved ones and address the unequal burden of heart disease in high-risk communities. The following ways to celebrate Heart Awareness are: wearing red clothes to promote healthy hearts, spread awareness through social media to your community, and or host a CPR/AED exercise to teach students life saving skills.

“Heart disease is a leading cause of death in the United States, claiming the lives of more than 650,000 people each year”

With everything going on with the pandemic, it can be easy to pile on stress and worries. While stressing about important matters can be beneficial for you, stressing too much can have a negative impact on your health which affects your heart. There are habits to improve your overall health.

Improving our Health

Exercise, getting enough rest, taking a break, enjoying your hobbies . . are just some of the many ways we can improve our health. And, how do they even help us?

  • Exercising, not only do you feel physically better, it also promotes the feeling of accomplishment which improves physical and mental health.

  • Sleep is often referred to as the ultimate stress reducer so make sure you’re getting your hours! When you fall asleep, it gives the body some time to replenish the energy burned throughout the day.

  • Overworking yourself without breaks increases chances of heart disease. When you take a break and allow yourself time to regroup , you can discover a new, enjoyable hobby.

There are many other types of methods that can reduce chances of heart disease too!

Why don’t we take the time to ensure reduced chances by taking care of ourselves to ensure we live a long, healthy life. Stay healthy, strong, and safe. Happy American Heart Awareness Month!!
